If I use a credit counselor/debt consolidation program do I have to pay all at once?

Usually not, most debt counselors will set you up on a workable plan, that usually takes care of the most expensive debt first. A few credit card companies actually take payment plans on settlements.

The most important thing is being completely honest with your financial situation to a debt counselor and being sure that you have a realistic plan. It’s also critical that you stick the agreed upon plan and make your payments on time.
